Lord of The Rings Letter Opener Narsil

This letter opener is a faithful reproduction of the Narsil sword.
It measures 22cm and comes in a glazed wooden box.

In the fictional world of J. R. R. Tolkien, Narsil is the sword of King Elendil, who arrives in Middle-earth during the Second Age after the island of Númenor is submerged by the Valar.

The sword was originally forged during the First Age by the dwarf Telchar of Nogrod, making it related to Angrist, a famous sword with which a Silmaril from Morgoth's crown was cut. Before ending up in Elendil's hands, the sword was given by Telchar to the elf Ñoldor Curufin, one of Fëanor's sons, to whom Angrist had also been given. It was then given to Maglor, who bequeathed it to Elros.

During the Second Age of Middle-earth, Narsil ends up on the island of Númenor, in the hands of Elros (Elrond's brother), the first of the Kings of Númenor, who himself is a descendant of Eärendil as well as several other lords among the Elves and the Edain. Although no reference is made to Narsil during this period, the sword ended up in the hands of Elendil, a distant descendant of Elros, towards the end of the Second Age.

Elendil used Narsil during the siege of Barad-dûr against the Maia Sauron, during the war of the Last Alliance of Elves and Men, but Sauron killed Elendil and the sword broke in two beneath him when he fell. Elendil's eldest son, Isildur, then takes the stump of his father's sword and uses it to cut off the finger of Sauron's hand bearing the One Ring. Isildur then takes Narsil's sections home.

Shortly before Isildur's death, in the second year of the Third Age, during the Disaster of the Iris Fields, Isildur's squire Ohtar takes the sections of Narsil to safety on his orders. They reached Rivendell in the third year of the Third Age, where Isildur's youngest son Valandil, still a child, was temporarily resident.

The sections of Narsil subsequently became part of the heritage of the line of Kings of Arnor and, when the Kingdom of the North was destroyed by the Witch-King of Angmar, they remained part of the heritage of the Dúnedain, the Rangers of the North. The sword was not reforged until the War of the Ring, towards the end of the Third Age.
